Klasyk Primary School – Puławy is an institution existing since 2009, operating before the reform as a Non-public Gimnazjum at the Prince Adam Czartoryski Secondary School No. 1 in Puławy and continues the best educational traditions.
It was established as a result of efforts made by a group of teachers and former students of the secondary school as well as members of the Society of Gimnazjum and Liceum Graduates, who decided to establish a primary educational institution that draws on the best traditions and values of the rich history of the High School. Their guiding thought was to teach secondary school students by providing uninterrupted education in one place, building and by the same teaching staff.
For we believed that such a strategy would prepare students to work harder at developing their talents and skills.

Although its candidates have to go through entrance exams, the enrolment lists are full every year. Currently we have 271 pupils aged 7-15 and 30 teachers. The school building is large, with 18 well-equipped classrooms, with multimedia materials and Internet access, 2 gymnasiums. We also have 2 football pitches and a multi-purpose field, as well as a dentist and doctor’s surgery.

The school has a monitoring system, an electronic diary, multifunctional smart cards and a quality management system PN-EN ISO 9001: 2009.
The general curriculum at our school is extended by some profiles from which students can choose from (general, mathematics and languages). In addition, as a second language it is possible to learn Spanish, which has proven to be a great asset and has brought a lot of interest in participating in various competitions, including a competition on the culture of Spanish-speaking countries, film culture of Spanish-speaking countries, film and art, music and dance.
Our students are active in sport, art and culture, as well as in Olympiads. Our teachers pay great attention to talented students and enable them to develop their skills in extra-curricular activities, which results in them winning awards and taking high places.
Our school has successfully finished the Comenius project “Are you CO2nsumer?”. The project ended in 2012 and it was a great experience for students and teachers as well as for the whole local community. The participants came back from the exchange with many ideas, they gained new knowledge, improved their language skills and developed their social skills. They also made new contacts with their peers from Spain and Belgium, they presented their country’s way of life to the guests and learned about the realities of life in the partner countries. It was very important for them because they were able to face problems and challenges in life, culture and language, which cannot be mastered in any other way than through direct experience.
PASOS is a non-profit organization, located in Polanco, a rural area, in the north of Spain, where the population had limited access to formal and nonformal education. They aim to improve the community they live in and to protect the environment which hosts us, as human beings.
As an organization, PASOS wants to offer their community new educational and ludic opportunities, to improve and develop their personal and professional lives and social inclusion.
In that purpose, they design, prepare, and implement information meetings, training courses (also for trainers and educators), workshops, concerts, events, international exchanges or mobilities and debates on current relevant topics and different areas of learners’ interest (emotional care and education, integration, personal growth, digital education and innovation, environmental education, etc).
They base their work in 3 main cornerstones: Enhance knowledge, embrace diversity, empower people. In all their activities, the contribution of the participants has a relevant role, since listening to their proposals, wishes and ideas is one of the central working methods, which generate exchange and debate.
PASOS main objective is to become a platform for their community (including those with disabilities or marginalized), to discover the world and all it has to offer, as well as to discover their personal interests and values. The mission of the organization is to develop and support the use of non-formal education, to boost creativity, to support environmental consciousness, to foster entrepreneurship, healthy lifestyles, democracy, and human rights, and to develop solidarity and tolerance.
PASOS invites youngsters to be involved in youth policies development or to design and start their own ventures. They also encourage them to actively participate in initiatives for the general welfare of society, in social or environmental campaigns, in human rights defense, etc.
Some of their staff are teachers and educators, who have a special interest in pedagogy and the way human beings learn. Thus, they also belong to other local groups dealing with alternative schooling (like forest, Montessori, or Waldorf Schools), which respect the person’s rhythms and interests, recognize the different intelligences and the value of both learning by doing methodologies and not judging the learning processes.
They work, coach and train youth workers, parents, teachers, social organizations and public institutions (as they act as multipliers), to develop their skills and acquire new tools (from the non-formal education) to be used with their young learners. PASOS has strong relationships and partnerships with local authorities, and educational centers, and other relevant regional, national and international NGOs”.
Sķibes Primary School is an educational establishment providing education and care for pupils from the age of 1.5 to 16 years. The school is located in two separate buildings:
Kindergarten and school. The 5 pre-school groups cover children from 1.5 to 6 years of age (approximately 100 pupils) and the primary school is for pupils aged 7 to 16 years (approximately 130 pupils).
At the moment, Skibes provides 6 official educational programmes, 4 of which are special education programmes. Pupils receiving special education at the pre-primary education stage represent 2% and 8% at the primary education stage.
The school provides the following educational programmes:
-preschool educational programme;
-special pre-school educational programme for pupils with mental development disorders;
-basic educational programme;
-special basic educational programme for pupils with disorders of mental development;
-special basic educational programme for pupils with learning difficulties;
-special basic educational programme for pupils with several severe disorders of mental development mental development.
The school started offering its first special education programme in 2001 and was aimed at students with mild intellectual development disorders. Other special education programmes other special education programmes were added gradually as the number of pupils requiring specific educational programmes has increased.
Since the 2004/2005 school year the Skibes school has participated in an international eco school and has received the highest award in the “Environmental Movement” category from The Green Flag Award. Since 2006, Skibes has been involved in a national network of health-promoting schools and has been awarded official status

Skibes offers a wide range of interest groups. Its pupils can participate in the following school clubs: folk dance group, vocal ensembles, woodworking course, sports clubs, environmental education group, English club, rhythmic dance group, applied arts course applied arts, drama club, robotics club, technology club, etc. The school also has an extensive support network, including a psychologist, a special education teacher, a social worker, a speech therapist social worker, speech and language therapist, corrective exercise teacher and careers advisor, while medical staff is available to students and staff throughout the day. The school employs around 40 staff members. At the primary education stage approximately 70% of teachers are certified to work with pupils requiring special educational programmes.
The school is involved in the following projects:
-ESF project to prevent diseases and promote health in Jelgava municipality;
-ESF project “Support to the development of individual competences of students”;
-ESF project “Professional support in general and vocational education institutions”;
Participation in the Competency-Based Approach to Learning Content programme, which is implemented in 2017-2020 and improves teachers’ competences by focusing on differentiation and individual working with each student and the connection between real-life situations and theoretical material, thus providing support for self-aware and independent learning.
The school has excellent IT support and staff regularly develop their IT skills on a regular basis.
Šķibe Primary School is an educational institution established by the Jelgava Municipality. The municipality has extensive experience in organising and implementing various local and international projects (http://www.jelgavasnovads.lv/lv/pasvaldiba/projekti/paslaik-istenosana) and will actively participate in the dissemination process of the project results.
